Mature Learners

Mature Learners are strongly represented within our University community, with almost 40% of our students being over 21.

However at York St John we are seeking to raise the representation of mature students who are returning to education who have not had previous experience of Higher Education. (A mature student is anyone over 21 years of age and we do not have an upper age limit for students to come to study).

Mature Learner Information Sessions

We currently run Mature Learners Information sessions, led by a member of the team from our Student Recruitment Team and a mature student ambassador. This is also an opportunity to meet other mature learners to discuss how they have approached study later in life.

This is an opportunity for mature learners who are considering higher education to find out more about university life. During the session you will meet a current mature student, have a campA group of students sitting outsideus tour and have your questions answered about attending University.

Your questions may include:

  • What subjects can I study?
  • How long would it take?
  • Full-time or part-time study?
  • What support can I have in order to study?
  • Do I have the skills and qualifications to apply?
  • What financial support can I get?
  • How do I apply?

Make your first step towards returning to learning by coming to visit us!
